Allen and Heath GL3300 Main PFL light will not go off
« on: June 11, 2018, 12:33:14 PM »

Hi.
I recently aquired an Allen and Heath GL3300 console.
On firing it up I noticed that the main PFL light above the main Faders is ON.
As a result I get no output from the main outputs.
I how ever get output in the headphones.
I disengaged all PFL and AFL buttons but still no change.
I then opened the back and and one by one disconnected the channel cards.
The culprit is the group 7&8 card.
Disconnecting the 16 way ribbon cable from this card restores the mixer to functionality,
I have checked all the AFL and PFL buttons on the circuit board and they seem to work fine/

Could someone kindly point me in the right direction so that I can repair the problem/

Hi Ike,
Have a look at the 34-pin connector as well and look for bent pins in both. Also, try exercising the AFL/PFL switches by pushing them a bunch of times. If the desk hasn't been used for a while these can be an issue. And finally have a careful look at the group 7/8 module and see if you can see any small bits of wire, solder or other conductive items that might be shorting across one of the switches. Another thing you can do is route some signal into that module and try and see if the actual AFL function is stuck on...like if you route signal to the Group, or the Aux, do you hear that signal in the headphones?
Cheers, Ike

Hi Ike,

I will do what you suggested. Sure the desk looks like it has not been used for a while.
I will let you know what I find out.

Hi Ike,

I tried what you suggested.
The Group 7\8 channel does not respond.
I think it is dead.
I will power the channel and test all ICs for faults.

Any pointers on what to look at as well?
I am not familiar with this product and the schematics that I down loaded do not make it any easier to fault find.

Regards
