Shims for mics
« on: June 10, 2018, 04:33:30 PM »

On the topic of spinning speakers Ill ask the collective.
Im looking for a solution for my condenser mics to fit vocal mic clips. Im always having to find an sm81 clip. Id prefer to hve the same clip for all my mics. Short of wireless of course.

Suggestions welcome. Looking for something “corporate clean” and semi permanent.

Thanks

Worth a try. I will add that I want to leave the clip with the mic stand and keep the shim on the mic itself.

Thanks

I suspect that the tricky part will be securing cylindrical mics to tapered clips with the friction "just right".

OMg srsly??  Just get your gaff or console or electrical tape and wrap til the right size. No one will see it because the clip is hiding it.

Duh.

On the other hand, if you want to make a good impression on your clients, bring the right mic clips. Nothing says skanky like having to tape up your mics to get them to stay in the clip. If you only want to deal with one style of clip use one type of mic.

I was waiting for the snark/truth.

You are both right perhaps Im overthinking it. It was more a convenience thing.

Thanks

Put the mics away in the clip so it's right there when you pull out the mic.

I may do that. And perhaps invest in some LO2B quick connects. Buy once cry once right.

Thanks for the input everyone.

We use the on-stage QK2s on every mic and every stand. All clips live on their respective mics.  Keeps everything organized and the bonus is the speed of deployment and strike. The bummer is that it's a bit pricey at first for something that doesn't offer much by way of glamour. You can sometimes get them for a discount in bulk, even from the usual suspect online retailers.

That's what we do. Easy once you get into the habit of it, the clip always lives with the mic. Easier than digging through a pile of tangled stands looking for the one with the right clip every time.
