If it hasn't been done already the VI1 is going to be discontinued and the VI1000 is its replacement.
It looks to me like that is the next board in price that can really handle to setup that I have going on with the Impact which is a little mind boggling to me. Obviously there are a lot of other features to consider but in terms of channel count and flexibility of layout the Impact seems hard to beat without spending a whole lot more money. I would love a Vi1000 but that is a huge jump in cost as you said.
