My wife recently went to the Taylor Swift concert in Levi stadium (her son won tickets on the radio).  She sent me pictures of the set up and everything was on free standing towers.  No real structural rigidity to the shape of anything up in the air like a conventional rectangular frame.  One of the delay towers (with a cantilevered LA off it) showed guys going halfway up the tower but they disappeared into the decking of auxiliary stages.  So I couldn't see what they were fastened to.  I can't imagine the 49er's allowing someone to sink huge anchors into their field.
I would assume that for a major varsity show like this there would have been some serious engineering behind the staging.  But from the pics she texted me I was glad we don't have sudden summer squalls here and the radio station was only giving out upper deck seats.

I just checked and indeed Tait is still building stages for Swift and you can believe it's well engineered.  They are right down the street in Lititz from Clair.

StageCo out of Belgium a trick self-supporting tower.  I was a follow spot operator on a Rolling Stones stadium show and there were 3 spotlight platforms on the upstage side and the delay PA on the downstage.  It's all modular and can be used without the delay hang or follow spots.  The StageCo folks are pretty sharp.

I remember when the only thing noteworthy in Lititz, PA was the Oneida Steel Trap Company.  Then those Clair boys started working with Elvis and Tait moved in later.

I have been pining for a tour of the staging building.  Maybe someday.  I have driven around the campus it's awesome.  The symbiosis with the Amish community is amazing and probably appealing to the artists wishing to escape constant attention.

The stageco site has some great pictures.

Scott, concerning artists and avoiding constant attention, George Harrison used to spend a lot of time at Leon's house and was able to get about easily since no one expected to see a Beatle in Tulsa, especially since he looked like hippie trash.

We have a couple of celebs that manage to come back to Wichita and largely escape excessive fandom.  Joe Walsh still owns his parents home in the College Hill neighborhood; Kirstie Alley has a home near the Scientology place (go figure); Don Johnson, John Travolta, Harrison Ford; Alton Brown is a frequent visitor...  I remember seeing Walsh in the grocery store 20+ years ago and he was able to shop without a bunch of Eagles fans following him around.

We have the factories and delivery centers for LearJet, Cessna Citation (biz jets) and Hawker-Beechcraft, along with training and service facilities so we get a fair number of owner-operator celebs in town on a regular basis.

A touring friend of mine is one of the advance set up guys.
If he is there...it is very safe.
The technology for free standing delay towers has been around for a while and proven on many tours.

Yep, it's safe. The delay towers have huge water ballasts below the decks. Don't ask me how I know this...
