I would "argue" that the CBT is not a line array-at least how it is normally used.

About the only thing it has in common with a "line array" is the fact that the drivers are oriented vertically.

I suppose those Shure Vocalmasters aren't line arrays either.  ;)
Now a real question, the Wikipedia says that the Grateful Dead Wall of Sound is.

They call it a line array and it's on the internet so it must be true. And they've managed to outdo Bose for number of drivers in a box.

I might be showing my age but in my day we called those column speakers.

edited for; I even made some using 4" coax car speakers, some big PVC water pipe cut in half and a plywood front.

I'm right there with you.

Parts Express has given me great service on parts, but I really scratch my head at some of their home products...

Ahh the Shure Vocalmasters. How many budding Beatles and Stones wannabe teenage bands did I try to dance to wailing through those.

My first band I worked with had 4 home made boxes built by the guitarist with 2 12"s (no HF) and a nice slot port down one side of the front. One of those Peavey 4 channel mixer/amps with the screw-in legs. The amp had been blown so the guitarist (who turned out one heck of a musician/electronics guy) bought a Crown DC300 for power. And a 31 band EQ. I was in sound guy Heaven.
The good old days. And I am glad Part Express is still around.

For those interested, CBTs are doing some interesting stuff.  Don Keele explains all about them on his website

DIY floor-to-ceiling line arrays look really interesting.
Not the CBT design, but a straight line, literally floor to ceiling. ....preferably in room corners.

The mirror reflections coming from both floor and ceiling,  supposedly allow it to mimic the closest thing to an infinite line array.
