Sub Rental Advice
« on: April 11, 2018, 08:56:10 PM »

Quick Question:

Doing an event later this week, grabbing the sub tomorrow. There are several rooms with audio, and this will be for one of the secondary rooms.
There will be a singer and canned music, but there will need to be at least one sub.

I have two SRX 812P, but no SRX sub yet. The following are easily available for cross-rental (no SRX) I, of course, will work the crossover and eq it. This is obviously not ideal and I am wondering what would be the best match out of the gate:

EV EKX-15SP
EV EKX-18SP
QSC KS 212C
QSC K Sub
QSC KW181
Yorkville  ES18P
Yorkville PS15S
Yorkville PS18S

Thanks for the input!

181’s cross at 100 if my memory is correct.   My luck has been great with them.

We get 50 for each 181 "to the trade" in the Cleveland market.

Keep in mind they don't have a crossover.

Was feeling a leaning towards QSC, will go for those.

Will have a digital console in that auxiliary room anyways so no worries there if there is no crossover.

X32 has LR and Butterworth filters on the matrix.   I am not aware of any other console (other than m32) with this feature but clearly it's not something I check.

... except we don't know what console the OP is using, so the thought "I am not worrying about getting speakers with a built-in crossover because I have a digital console" is worrisome. Even more so when the OP first said he would "work the crossover and EQ it."

That being said, he's only asking about sub choice, and not commentary on the system setup and design, so maybe I need to shutttup. :P

I keep a couple of analog x-overs in inventory for just this kind of thing...  with a new client I can always ask-what tops ?  Got a crossover ?

Exactly. They're cheap and pretty bulletproof. Yes, they CAN process on the console, but *shrugs* will it be as easy and efficient?

I have two SRX 812P,
The EV subs have selectable lowpass filters at 80hz, 100hz and 120hz and the Yorkvilles are fixed at 100hz.  Do those JBL boxes have a high pass filter? If so it should be pretty easy to make them work with any of these subs.. no outboard processing necessary.
