If we were all to standardise at 55Hz, it would at least be in the key of A.

Yes.  I remember seeing advertisements for Gibson amplifiers with a 25Hz option.

And some countries (notably Germany) still have 16 2/3 Hz supplies for railway traction (with even some dedicated power stations), their on train step-down transformers must be huge (supposedly 50Hz transformers are 1/3 the size!).
