Test equipment liberated
« on: March 21, 2018, 11:34:48 PM »

Got some sweet gear.  Two multi-output supplies, fast storage scope and a nice DVM.

Best find is the Spectrum Analyzer.   Real time display into the microwave range.  Should be awesome for tracking down interference.

I am hoping to use HP instrument basic to export scans into WWB.

Any thoughts on the SA in a production environment?

That's the fanciest microwave I ever did see.

That's a great haul Scott, and I'm jealous. The 8591EM is an RFI tracing tool. Good for HAM radio as it covers most of the HF frequencies, not much good for audio. Without looking at the specs it good for spurious frequencies from about 2Khz to about 1.5Mhz. Don't remember it's been so long. You could send it to me and I'll put it with my Heathkit 512Mhz counter. With the two of them I'll be able to put more books on the shelf. But still a great haul, and eventually you'll find a use for it all.

The specs say it is a general purpose spectrum analyzer from 9 Khz to 1.8Ghz with 20db quieting at .04uv signal input.

That would make it very suitable for onsite interference location.

EM emissions of PC boards with PLL circuits was the original role from where I liberated.

It came out of Hyannis BTW.

It's funny you mentioned a counter, they had an awesome Agilent counter with a much of millimeter wave probes.  I think the counter was good to 22Ghz.

He decided he needed it.  The thing had been in storage since it came back from the CAL lab but once I showed interest all of  a sudden he wanted it.  I could have swung my dick around and taken it anyway but since I may actually need something from this guy in the future it was best to keep peace.  Besides if the VP I report to found out I was scrounging test equipment instead of the business process migration stuff my team is working on it would not have gone well.

It's all about me, don't you know <g>

Got you covered on that Scott. I wish I could take the hardware I'm offered on an almost daily basis. High end servers, routers, storage, etc.. The stuff is being phased out in most cases and usually only 2-3 years old. Not worth losing my job over, so it stays where it is and let the client deal with it.
