I know many use the staple Shure SM57, or even an Audix I5 for miking guitar cabs. I found if you record hard rock amps where you want that mid push and slightly boxy sound, those mics can do a good job.

In 2018 where in worship music you want to hear all the clarity of your Strymon delay and reverbs,  I found those mics are not the best option due to the limited frequencies that they represent.

I recently tried a Telefunken M81 which provides more detail in the high and low frequencies. I was amazed how more accurate it provided the sound of the amp. The reverb tails and the delays are heard so much more. If you have not yet used one, I highly recommend you try one.

Being that the Telefunken is two and a half times more expensive then a sm57 I would expect a little better sound quality.
thanks for the info

True but we're talking $250, not like a $1,000 mic

I prefer Heil PR30's.  SM57's were the shizzle 50 years ago.  There are better options today.

We use the PR30's too. They are awesome.

Bullwinkle: This is the amplifier, which amplifies the sound. This is the Preamplifier which, of course, amplifies the pree's.

For the same price as a 57 a Senny e609 sounds terrific on guitar cabs.  Much more detailed than a 57.

E609 or E906?  The 906 is more versatile and less 4kHz spike.
