Tedess was one of the first vendors I checked. This cap is only 2" diameter and about 4 1/16" tall. It's pretty compact for it's capacitance and voltage.

Are you saying the Tedess cap is smaller than the original cap?  If smaller, is that a problem?

Don't get too carried away (like think double) with the capacitance.  The inrush current could be more than the PS can handle.

Other than that a set of matched caps that exceed OEM specs will make the amp seem new.  You will be surprised.  Your energy reserve is probably 1/4 of what it was new.

I would also reflow the boards while I was in there.  Burn away any trapped moisture and clear up any marginal connections.

I just sorted through a bunch of similar caps. Send me a PM as a reminder and I'll check tonight.

I'm assuming the terminals are screw type, which makes no difference, and the cap is mounted in a clamp.

Hi David. No, the Tedess cap is substantially larger. The caps they're selling are for large scale UPS systems, so they're not concerned with a more compact form factor.

Cheers,

Thanks Bob. I've already placed the order with Digikey though ;) They are screw terminal and clamped.

New caps came today. To be installed this weekend. Note to self - make absolutely sure the polarity is absolutely correct. Caps that big must be extremely unpleasant when they explode.

Interesting octagon impression on the sides of these...
