Hendrix Home Guitars..
« on: January 23, 2018, 11:11:33 AM »

I thought this was a joke but it seems legit. Guitars made of wood from Jimi's childhood home

Talk about boutique!
They probably got the wood for free.

And what are they charging a piece? $a million? $2 million?

I find it pathetic how his family has capitalized on his legacy. Jimi played off the shelf Strats and would never have paid so much for a custom built guitar.

Perhaps not an intentional joke but still funny, not hah-hah funny, more like smells funny.

Almost borders on morbid? Exploited?

Still a good money making idea. And the wood is well aged. Not sure if it's the right wood for a guitar but the people that buy one are probably just gonna play it once and then put it in a nice display case and hang it on the wall.

Jimi Hendrix Lyrics
"Red House"

There's a Red House over yonder
That's where my baby stays
There's a Red House over yonder, baby
That's where my baby stays

Well, I ain't been home to see my baby,
in ninety nine and one half days.
'Bout time I see her,
Wait a minute something's wrong here
The key won't unlock the door.

Wait a minute something's wrong baby,
Lord, have mercy, this key won't unlock this door,
something's goin' on here.
I have a bad bad feeling
that my baby don't live here no more.

That's all right, I still got my guitar
Look out now . . .

I might as well go on back down
go back 'cross yonder over the hill
I might as well go back over yonder
way back over yonder 'cross the hill,
(That's where I came from.)

'Cause if my baby don't love me no more,
I know her sister will!

-D

<edit>  Oh. It was white.   :(

Apparently there are enough "genuine" bits of burnt guitar parts that allegedly came from the guitar Jimi famously set fire to at Monterey to build several complete guitars.

One wonders how many houses would be able to be built from the single Hendrix house?

Cheers,
Tim

From the description I read, it seems "House Wood" is used as trim on the neck....... and they're only building 10.
They won't be cheap......

Dweezil Zappa has that guitar.  It's been sufficiently restored that it is playable although the finish is as it was after Jimi lit it up.

They aren't using any of the wood from the house as "tone woods", just as trim.  No real mojo at all.  Not at all the same as luthiers who get hold of 100yr+ old wood to make bodies or necks out of.  Sad.
