Sennheiser EK2000 IEM interference
« on: January 21, 2018, 07:44:51 AM »

So today I'm having guest technicians using my venues wireless microphones and IEM systems.
The monitor guy comes with one of the IEM packs saying there is some crazy interference wherever he goes with the pack. He says it sounds like the squelch acts up.
So I check the system myself and it is working flawless.
When a tell the guy that I can't find any problems I see that he is using a headset with coiled cord.
As Sennheiser uses the cord as an "diversity" antenna I'm thinking this is the reason for the bad receiving.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Go to the location where he has the problem and listen with his headset to confirm the issue.
Then change to yours and see if it goes away.
I have not heard of any problems with coiled cables but then I have always used buds with straight cables.

Yea I don't think I'm going to have time to try his headphones unfortunately, and I have walked around where he had problems and I don't get any problems.
I'm thinking this could be a specific phenomenon at more or less one frequency.

When you did your "test" was your pack tuned to the same frequency?
If not, try that.

Yes, only difference was I used my Ultimate Ears instead of his headphones.
The thing is I have been using the same frequencies (20 ch UHF-R and 8 ch SR2050) in this venue for 5 years without problems, so when he reported this I had a listen myself and found no problem. As I expected....

Sorry if the suggestion seemed obvious but sometimes it's good to confirm.
If you have had not issues other than that 1 person, then carry on  :)
