Multi-Channel Headphone Amp as a Zone Controller?
« on: January 18, 2018, 11:50:05 AM »

Has any one tried something like this to drive multiple zones with powered speakers?  ...as in, 1 stereo in and 6 or 8 stereo outs.

ex:  ART Headamp6Pro Professional 6-Channel Headphone Amplifier

I am currently using a Peavey PZS 80, and it works fine to scatter sound to unpowered speakers around he property.  However, it is mono and has 'limited' power.

Down the road, I foresee myself having an inventory of perfectly useable powered speakers.  :)

Sure, you could do that. Headphone level is close enough to line level to work, and the lower source impedance is not a bad thing to have either.

If you really wanted to have fun you could send a mono signal in the left input, and a polarity inverted signal into the right input. Then your outputs will all be balanced mono.

The headphone amp should work fine.
There is this...

Auto-Mute ?
The output would be a balanced configuration from tip (R) to sleeve(L).
Same an an XLR pin 2 and pin 3

I had planned to send a L/R signal using common XLR (unbal) to fanout at the far end.  Testing would prove how noisy that might be. However, a mono balanced (thanks for the explanation, Keith) may be what I really need.

Hmmm... the ULTRAZONE ZMX2600 looks like it will do all I want.  I'm so skittish, after have been burnt by their products in the past, but I might take a $99 chance on this.

the way I read it, left and right would cancel out.
I believe that's what Brian was smiling at too...

Interpretation is in the mind of the reader. ;)
It would make a "balanced" mono send on TRS
