com over phone
« on: January 16, 2018, 02:19:50 PM »

I would like to create a solution to get com over a telephone system using the handset connector as the audio interface point.
There is a THAT2 device that will allow for audio in and out to the handset connector but how do I integrate that with the com?

Wouldn't that just become a 4-wire interface at that point?

Yep, just need to convert the comms signal the same way you would if you were interfacing it with any other audio gear.  You'll need power on both sides of the phone connection.  There's probably schematics that'll help on Pete's site bestaudio.com

By this Ike is saying there are lots of 4W converters to 2W comms. The best is the Studio Technologies series 45, 46, and 47. Clear Com has a more budget friendly device, the EF701, and RTS has the SSA-324.

These will all convert your 4W circuit to 2W, and some of them will power belt packs.

Best way to connect 2-wire comm to a phone is with a telos Link.  It has phone connection and wet intercom connections.  Will answer the phone as well.

Telos Link

That-1 gets audio out into a mixer and audio in but not to an intercom unless its a Matrix.

Depending on what you already have... we've done it with 4-wire between a Gentner 300 phone hybrid and a Studio Technologies 2W-4W com interface.  A compressor/gate going each way can substantially reduce the noise floor between systems and also help smooth out volume differences.

Telos's The Link is a great device, but if Riley's interested in buying, it's also discontinued. You can rent them from a variety of places like CP Communications.

As I understand the manual, it requires a "dial up phone line"
Not always available for my application.
That's why I want to use  to the headset connection.
