So, to conclude, I picked up a DCX2496 open box.

I don’t have a working windows laptop yet (my xp one needs a new cmos battery)so I can’t download either the editor or remote software. The Tribe site has no description of either app.

Will someone with experience with them comment on why to choose one or the other and what OS versions it works with?

Thanks

I guess I was a bit vague. I am interested in the Windows version but since I don’t have my laptop working yet, I can’t experiment. So, the questions...

It's ancient software.  I keep an old XP machine around that has a serial port on it.  Honestly it looks like compiled BASIC from about 1992 to be honest with you.  As long as you have a standard COM 1,2,3,4 it will probably run fine.

I am not ragging on the program BTW, it is intuitively obvious to use and does what it is supposed to.

Which of the two programs are you referring to?

The Windows version....Am I missing something?

From post 40 it appears there are two versions of the software, an "editor" and "remote" software.

Ah I get it.  If you look at the manual all of the screen shots are from what the remote software.  I see that it's just a bump up to 1.16a so my guess is it's just unfortunate naming of the two versions.

All of my comments are about the remote software.

To show you how easy it is to use that's the first time I looked at the manual!

Thanks. I would look at the manual if I had a computer to download the software to.
My XP machine is in the shop getting a new cmos battery.

Somewhere I have at least 1 machine with XP but haven't used it in years.  Might be a Motion Computing tablet... let me know if you strike out, Rob.
