That just shows you how big those subs really are and how dangerous it is where he lives. That isn't a cat that is a leopard.  :o 8) ;)

Haha … really big subs ... and that’s Toto, he is actually half leopard and half cat (Bengal) … You guys probably didn't know this but leopards, as you can see, are fascinated with all things audio …  ???

John - What kind of 21 are you getting?

Designing and building my own, probably going with the venerable B&C 21SW115-8.

We have a few sets of ST132's that work pretty well with SM80's as well as keeping a set of the K&M crankup satellite poles when we don't need the height or if we're trying to keep it tight. Nothing complicated)

My reasoning too.  Someone mentioned the footprint of the Duratruss 3800, and of course, it is smaller all around(less capacity, lighter weight to pack, etc.).  The ST132 is probably the safer bet for an SM80 for these obvious reasons.

There is also the larger Duratruss ST-3900 stand, which is closer to the ST132 in footprint, but still weighs less and holds more.

That may be the one to get.

Best regards,

John

Something else I've observed from product videos is the minimum height of the Duratruss and ST-132 stands-it appears to be around 6'.

Is this the case?  I may not be tall enough to single handedly put an SM-80 up on one.

Best regards,

John

In a pinch i've inserted the stand with the speaker laying down, and then flipped the whole assembly upright. Haven't down it with tilters on though...that would be a little tricker. Usually I just get one of the band guys to help heft it up onto the stand if I'm working alone.

I have both the Duratruss 3800 and 3900.
The 3900 is by far a better stand.

@Peter

Is the dual 21" sub your own design as well?  If so, is there information about the sub in the Soundforums thread about the New DIY Mid High box?

That is also how I set up (and tare down..) my larger cabs when there's no helping hand around.

Doing it with the tilters already in place can actually help..
If there is even a small angle misalignment between the laying stand and the (now) horizontal top hat, this can make the task of inserting into the top hat a little tricky.
So the tilter may be adjusted to correct this misalignment and make the insertion easier.

This will also eliminate extra loads that this misalignment may develop on the top hat assembly, tilter and stand pole at this pre-lifting stage.
