Amplifier power distribution

(1/1)

Deesi Sunny-Williamson:
Hey everyone
So there’s this church with a tight budget, presently they’re driving two Wharefedale full range speakers and two wharfedale subs (all speakers are 4ohms, 500W & 600W continuous power respectively) with a single Behringer EP4000 power amp
The connection is: ch1 driving the full range speakers, which are connected to both speakon and binding posts
Ch2 driving the subs, connected same way

The question is, since both speakon and binding posts are being used, how is the power amp distributing the power?

Both top speakers are getting equal power as are both subs. Both the connections lead to the same place inside the Amp so the amp doesn't "know" how many speakers are connected to the channel. Neither does it "know" which connection method u used.

I have a feeling that there's a reason you are asking this. Are one or more speakers producing less sound than others!?

Since the speakon and the binding posts are different versions of the same amp output each speaker in the pair connected to a single channel receive the same power (voltage). Since the EP4000 is rated to deliver 2000W into 2Ω, which is how you have each channel loaded, the amp at clipping is capable of delivering 1000W into each speaker. Due to the nature of low frequency signals the channel with the subs will probably be delivering the bulk of the power, but this will depend on how you have the system tonality balanced.
