Jbl srx sub stack using srx-818sp and srx-828sp
« on: November 30, 2017, 10:04:00 PM »

So...

I now own 4x818sp and 2x828sp

What’s the bast way to stack them?

I’ve noticed the 828 is like 2x 818 port to port.

So should I place 2x 818 on top of an 828 with one of the 818’s upside down so that the 2 818’s ante port to port?

Thanks

Ben

Well you have a fairly versatile sub setup now that is for sure. They are all compatible with each other so it won't really matter which way be it for aesthetics or function. You could use an 818 next to an 828 for a cardioid type array, you can stack the 818's on the sides and use the 828's in the middle. I would say it really just depends on the goal you have in mind and what will work best to achieve it.

It is not necessary to put subs port-to-port to get coupling... you need only to have the acoustic centers of the loudspeakers within 1/4 wavelength of the freq you want coupling to occur.  At 80Hz that's about 1.1 meter...

For aesthetic reasons and to prevent the Audio Knowitalls from "correcting" you, put the ports together when possible, but you're not doing any harm if you can't accomplish it.
