Custom cabinet shop?
« on: November 20, 2017, 08:29:49 PM »

Pretty sure this has been discussed before but search function isn't cutting it.  Can anyone suggest a custom cabinet shop for building speaker cabs to spec?  Mid Atlantic area would be ideal.

Riley,
R&R cases near Chicago builds great boxes.

You might add "CNC" and "woodwork" to your local search terms, there are a number of shops listed in the D.C. area, but I have never worked with any.

Most any kitchen cabinet shop could handle speaker cabinet building if your plans are complete and accurate. Car audio shops may have box builders more familiar with speaker plans and road abuse.

That said, "custom" comes with a price, hard to compete with mass production being done where labor costs are low, unless you find a "DIY" guy looking for a new challenge.

What type and how many cabs are you thinking?

There are a couple of cabinet makers in the Carolinas.  They mostly do guitar amp and speaker cabs, but might be interested in sound reinforcement.

CNC was the magic search term, thanks.

Not Mid Atlantic, but they have customers nationwide:

Full modern shop with plenty of CNC machinery.

They make my coax wedge monitor cabinet, which has been available for a few months from them ready to  finish and load.  They do other cabinets, and custom is always something they can look at.

Ask for Bill Scarim or Robert Miller.

Best regards,

John
