"Fuzz" as in white noise/hiss, or "fuzz" as in electrical buzz? Your answer will help determine if this is a mixer problem, or OE.

Looking at the schematic for the mixer I don't think it's too much a user error thing, there is no way that I can see to actually control the HA level(gain).

I would honestly expect a component level fault, the mixer looks to be quite old since Yamaha no longer even lists it(googleing MJ100 comes up with some interesting results).

Send it to a repair shop, Yamaha would probably still look at it for you as well from what I know about their customer support. It's more than likely in need of a new set of caps, pots and faders and there is probably a faulty OP amps somewhere as well.

To help you fault find though, does your "fuzz" sound go to the line outs as well as the master outs. Is it present on the headphone output?

If you "solo" (select with the buttons on the console) each source one by one while listening on headphones does one of them have the sound and none of the others.

yes it would happen with both the main out and line outs, but since posting this the sound has mysteriously gone missing, lt doesnt show up when recording to my laptop with audictiy, and doesn't come through in my speakers. I have an auido clip from before it was magically "fixed" if that would be of interest. Also doesn anyone know why it would randomly fix its self, its made this sound for a year now

Ok...what changed?

Something added/removed from the same power circuit?

Mixer moved to different circuit?

Someone turned off the fridge?

Somebody changed computer power supply?

Things don't just fix themselves....especially after a year.

Something has changed, and you need to identify what it was so you can lock the entire system down in this "working" state.

Cheers,
Tim

I think post the audio file, its easier to understand exactly what the issue is then.

Maybe the whatever caused the noise has failed and the OP hasn't had to use that feature on the board yet. Time to file this board under "door stop".
