Crown purchased the line, then orphaned it. Their parts & service depts. no longer support the amplifiers. Many are not happy with Crown.

I remember seeing those amps at NSCA when they came out. They were beautiful looking designs. I think they were the only "modern" amp with a switching power supply that still used real metal canned output transistors. I also liked how the cooling fans were directly on the channel heat sinks.
I'm sure a good pro audio repair shop can fix it up for you.

Tony,

Harman bought the C-Audio brand as part of a group of companies, and effectively killed it. A few models were produced using the brand name post acquisition. Hardware assets(spares etc) were transferred to Harman UK, which at the time was the distribution and service arm for Harman products. This was sold/whatever, to Sound Technology an MI distribution company, who now distribute and service most of the Harman brands. Their service dept still has all the service manuals and layouts. They used to have an ex C-Audio staff member working there. If you need circuits etc, send an email.

Iain.

FWW, IIRC, looking at the picture, the internals of the C-audio amp look much like that of a Crown XS series amp.

Perhaps Crown saw fit to use some of the designs. The C Audio line came out years before the Crown XS amps did.

The XS series was virtually identical to the C-Audio Pulse series amps, schematic wise.
The XS rejigged the mechanical layout, mounting the fans amidships instead of at the ends
of the heatsinks, and they are a bit more reliable than the Pulse amps (which contribute
regularly to my retirement fund). It will be interesting to see what becomes of the Pulse amps
once the worldwide supply of IGBT gate drive transformers (custom made and prone to
failure) runs out.

That's easy, several of us in the UK that are still using and/or repairing these beasts roll our own. The correct torroid and triple insulated wire plus a short time spent "knitting" and you have yourself a transformer that is better than the original. Thanks to several of the guys who inhabit the UK based speakerplans forum the instructions are freely available.  ;D
