I am trying to get   recommendations of aftermarket (replacement/non OEM) lavalier and headset wireless mics. I have seen a few on ebay and Amazon etc, but need to get feedback from forum members on specific brands/models etc that they have had satisfactory use with.

The branded ones by the likes of Sennherser /Shure are not very cheap and way beyond my budget.

Glad to get your recommendations......

Are you looking for just the microphone (headset or lav) itself or a complete system with RF transmitter and receiver.

http://www.microphonemadness.com/ usually fits the price/performance tradeoff pretty well.

If you're looking at the Pyle brand mics on Ebay trying hard to be $25 E6 knock-offs be aware that they are not too bad sounding for that price but that they need to be considered expendables like gaff tape.  A slight bend of the boom will snap it off.  Fine for instances where you don't expect the mics to return from the rental but having trouble getting the PTA parents to pony up the price of broken E6s.

Looking for microphones only (headworn and Lavalier). To be used with existing Shure and Sennheiser wireless systems.

I've had some pretty decent luck with various models from Avlex. Stood up to frequent use by wedding DJs.

Why?

Buy a proper microphone and charge the customer for any abuse.

Quality items tend to be better value in the long run.

I recently did a theater production where one of the headsets was an Apex. I connected the theater with Mike Pyle as he is an Apex dealer. The headset mic performed very well, seemed well built, and the headset came with cable/connectors for all the major manufacturers transmitters. The cables are detachable. Mike told me that Apex is in the Yorkville family. We also used a Line 6 headset which also performed very well. These come terminated for Line 6/Shure. We also had a Countryman which I thought was the best of the bunch but not sure if it is worth 4X the price. The Apex was around $100.

Here is a video from the production

2. man - Line 6
3. woman - unknown brand
4. man - Countryman
