In electronics production areas static dissipative floor wax is common.  I suppose there may be some conventional waxes that do the same thing.  Most such things are based on being wettable.  Attracting surface moisture.  A common stuff to wipe on plastic monitors and such is a product called Staticide, which is basically highly diluted Woolite.  The dryer sheet is a weak version of the same thing.  The soap film attracts atmospheric moisture and dissipates static charges.

As far as wiping guitars I tend to prefer microfiber cloths.  They get sweat and gunk off and leave a less sticky surface.  Wax has to be done constantly.  I remember watching Robben Ford's tech waxing the guitars in between each set.  Too much work unless you similarly have a tech traveling with you.
