Contact for King Crimson at Lisner Wash DC Oct 28
« on: October 24, 2017, 08:02:31 PM »

My guitarist Karl just grabbed us a couple of tickets for the King Crimson concert at Lisner Auditorium in Wash DC this Saturday, Oct 28. Anyone have a contact name/number with the band or venue? I would love to get backstage access and hang out with the crew a bit and possibly meet the players. 301-964-5682 is my cell#.

Hey Mike, I tried. A friend of mine is their ME, but he said it's a very tight shop and they weren't into the backstage visit thing. Enjoy the show!

I saw them in Denver this summer -- best concert in quite some time.  Enjoy!

Thanks for trying. Yeah, I know that some artists are cool with a backstage visit, but many have had bad experiences and just don't want the hassle. Let your friend know that if someone in the crew falls over and they need me to step in and cover them, I'm there to help.... ;D

My experience has been that if you don't have a pre-arranged meeting with a performer, you're unlikely to have a conversation that gets past "please pass the salt" (my fascinating convo with Billy Gibbons, as he was talking golf with his bus driver) while in catering, or a smile and wave if you pass them in a hallway.

It's their work space, just like your classroom, Mike.  Some performers are really adamant about maintaining that to the point of sequestering stage hands when they're not needed in the arena or at the dock.

On the Tom Petty tours where Robert Scovil had his FOH/system demos for EAW and AVID, I was told they were difficult to coordinate with Petty's tour management and Scovi had a very specific time window when these could be done.  No walk-up attendees; everyone had to be vetted by TP's tour security before they were given final confirmation, IIRC.  With more recent events I'd expect back stage areas to be further restricted to working personnel only.

No, I don't blame them. Back in the day I could always get a backstage tour by simply talking to the FOH guy and introducing myself. If they had read any of my articles in the many magazines I've written for, I got the full tour and sometimes an invite to the after-party. But those days are long-gone, I'm afraid.
