Smallish 2 way SOS powered boxes
« on: October 11, 2017, 12:36:59 PM »

So, I am looking for a couple of smaller speakers. The picture in my head is QSC K10 sized.

I like the back panel on the original K12s but not so much the weight.

These would be for talking heads sorta things, small folk group settings or, over a sub, small party playback.

Likely will be looking for gently used.

What’s good out there?

Thanks

What's your budget?

At the bottom end, I still like my Yamaha DBR10. I keep one for small parties and the like. Plug in a mic + MP3 player and off you go. Sometimes I lend it for bigger parties, where it gets a 21" sub to do the low stuff. Sure, the DBR10 gets congested pretty quickly when you push it, but hey, they're cheap, sound half-decent and have proven difficult to break so far.

A step up would probably be a DXR8. Smaller, and likely more clean output than a DBR10. Haven't tried them side-by-side.

Past those, sky's the limit.

+1 to the suggestions so far, but also look at the EV ZXA1.  Great sounding little speaker.

Have sold several DXR10s to clients looking for similar solutions and they've all been happy.

I'm considering replacing our aging SOS rental stock with them, too.

Yamaha DXR10 is the best of the reasonably-priced bunch.

I recently purchased two JBL PRX710's and am really pleased with them. They are about 4 lbs. heavier than the DXR10 but also can be found for about $100 less.
My only dislike with these is the lack of a wedge angle but a piece of audio wood fixes that.

Thanks

K10's or K8's. Tough to beat.  Tough to kill.  Rent like mad for me...  along with k12's...
