Maybe what I'm hearing / feeling is extra bass reflex harmonic distortion as you picture.
I can't know absolutely for sure, but I really don't think so...

Because it's pretty easy to see if the subs are spitting out harmonics at the high drive levels...
I just crank the system way up and mute the mains, and then see how the subs sound alone....don't need measurements for that !

Haven't heard a problem....
An interesting test is when you compare subs (with LP filters) with no tops.
In most/many cases people will pick the one with the most distortion because it has more higher harmonic content and sounds more full range.

Mark,..You may completely agree now, but after your death, what shall your "full range" test have left for us to agree upon?
