:) ;) :D ;D Now don't go dissing rotary pots, some were very nice. You might ask Mr. Beaver about the big knobs under his desktop!  :) ;) :D ;D
And they still move easily and with the large knobs, you can make fine adjustments.

And they would freeze up if not used every day..
I used to carry vise grips with me when I worked on one of those.

You just grab ahold of each one and "break it free" and you were good for the night.

JR, There was a time in the mid 70's where I owned a few Peavey PA systems. The one I remember most was my P9, PA9??? 400 watts and I drove 4ea. 4x12 columns with it. Lot's of big knobs, and pretty good sound in it's day. One of the few systems I used that could run head to head with a vocal master. And built like a brick shithouse to boot. There was Traynor, Marshall, Kustom, JBL, Shure, etc., but that Peavey sounded as good as any and better than most. Looked similar to the board under the glass on Ivans desk.

The console under my desk is the PA900.  I am sure it was the same thing.

They also made a large version of that-something like 20 something channels.

It was "quite large".

The amp in that console was good for 400 watts @ 2 ohms (if I am not mistaken).  Quite powerful for the day.

Many years ago, I built some monitors using EV(?)re entrant horns and 12" Celestion speakers. Cap on the horn for high pass "crossover". Driven with some kind of -4 amp modules in a black case amplifier - at 50 watts each. (can't remember the brand...maybe started with a G?...)
Anyway...while they were better than no monitors at all, they really...really...REALLY sucked!!

JBL's entry-level (TR-, JRX-, SF-) lines of PA cabinets are worthless, IMO.  I've seen sound people with better skills than me, trying in vain to coax decent sound out of TR-225s.

Agreed. I have a local novice mixer who speaks of quality mixes he does on some mismatched JRX cabs. I have to keep reminding him of the quality of his reference!

I remember that bashing Peavey was just what everyone did.

I remember bashing Peavey.

Then I realized that my bad experience with Peavey was really with severely abused equipment run by people who didn't have a clue what they were doing.

That's not a valid reason for bashing a brand.

Incompetent operation can really soil a brand's image. If I made speakers for the low-end market, I might not want to put my name on them.

I remember bashing Peavey.

I did have some Peavey-branded cardioid microphones, don't remember the model. They had poor isolation and seemed to be prone to feedback.

Upgraded to SM58; gave the Peaveys to a kid who was learning sound stuff.

Can we include every single brand/model of the ubiquitous/ridiculous "coffee house line array" crap out there???

Pretty please?
