Any Trekies? Discovery thoughts?
« on: September 25, 2017, 10:51:00 AM »

I assume there are a few trek fans amongst us so a few questions.

1 - Did you watch the premier
2 - Did you watch the second half on All Access
3 - Is the paid streaming service a non-starter for you?
4 - What did you think of the show?

I watched the first 10 minutes and lost interest.

I'm a big fan of the original series and characters. I haven't really liked any of the other series or movies with the NG cast. I do like the new movies. Probably because they have new versions of the original characters.

We get the it on Netflix, here. I'm saving the goodies for when the kids are in bed tonight.

I have come to dislike the new movies, so I have had kind of mixed feelings waiting for Discovery. There are some BIG shoes to fill here...

It's on Netflix? If so, that's nice.

I'm over the stupid news websites that don't have the info I want. I searched "where to watch trek" and my results were less than stellar :(

Nathan, it's only on Netflix outside the US.

1 - Recorded it
2 - Second half was on Space here in Canada (same as first) - Recorded it
3 - Yup.
4 - Let you know after I watch them 3 or 4 times.

I'm not obsessed with trek.
That being said, I have all TOS and NG episodes on DVD, and all movies on DVD or BR.
Prefer TOS and NG. Watched a bit, but didn't really follow Voyager and Deep Space. Never saw Enterprise.

Yeah, Boo that they want people to pay $6/month for a streaming service to watch it, as opposed to, you know, broadcasting for free over the airwaves like has been done for decades. Seriously. I understand and appreciate paying for streaming when it's a premium service/offers special content -- but the actual show shouldn't be stuck behind that paywall.

So sounds like if no other episode will be broadcast... that was my first and last episode to watch. :(

I watched episode one...   They seem serious with nice production values. I am sensitive to hollyweird getting a little preachy so question the mention of "race" in a communication with starfleet.  I'm sure they will explain that in later episodes. Modern culture is so hung up on identity.

I watched 1 1/2 episodes of Seth MacFarlane's Orville and enjoyed the campy send up of the star trek genre until he injected an alien baby sex change plot line. A little too heavy for campy comedy entertainment.

No doubt the original star trek was a morality play set in space, but thankfully more subtle... I guess they will continue that tradition too.

PS: I will apologize in advance to all I offended.
