Pop up canopy replacement
« on: August 20, 2017, 01:48:36 PM »

What are you guys using ? EZ-Up is too light for the wind in my area.   I'm doing Stand Up Paddle Races today. The canopy they provided is bomber.  6 sided aluminum legs, a center post (like EZ-Up but way beefier) and vents in the top.  ... and no brand name to be found...

Ummm... Ask "them" ?
Sounds like an industrial supplier of tent thingys. Maybe custom, likely stock.

EZ-up makes a couple of sturdier series with thicker legs and more robust hardware. So far they seem to hold up well on tour.

Ask them.. tried that...  them didn't know.  May have to try their marketing dept as the canopies were the custom print logo variety printed.

King Canopy is what floats to the surface of my memory...

Good ones cost a bit more money. We used to use EZ-UP brand canopies that were in the $400-$500 range and they were beefy. You could do pullups on the crossbars and the unit would not be affected. They have many different levels of quality in their offerings.
Lately we have been using the $80 home depot 8x8 straight legged canopies, and they get damaged on almost every show, to the point of requiring repair. Luckily you can get parts for them for cheap. Once you factor in the repair time they aren't so cheap. 8x8 straight legged canopies are great for risers, $80 price point is great for the wallet, $80 quality, ... not so much.

Give KD Kanopy a look. Much more robust than many other brands. It costs more but it lasts.

KD canopy makes a very good pop up tent that lasts.  There are even more industrial grade small tents available, but take a bit more to set up than your typical pop up.

The el cheapo wal mart tents are designed for backyard occasional use.  They are sun shades at best, and won't protect you against any sort of weather.

Another happy KD Kanopy customer. I still have my first 10 x 10 frame that I purchased about 30 years ago. All the parts are easily replaceable in the rare instance something breaks. A classic example of you get what you pay for.

Got the conversation started with KD.  Need to get them graphics to complete.  $880 so far...

Yes to this.  We have 3 of the Majestic and 2 of the XTF.  Our oldest Majestic frame is easily 15 years old.  If/when they get caught in wind storm and sent hurling, all frame parts are readily available and reasonably priced.  Typically we will need to replace the canopy (tent cover) every 4 or 5 years.  We remove the canopy from the frame and fold it and store it in the carry bag between every use.  If you fold the canopy up with the frame and store/transport the frame with the canopy attached, you will wear the canopy out in 2 years or less.  KD Canopy makes a solid product.

Give Impact Canopies a try also. https://www.impactcanopy.com/business/instant-canopies/

I have a 10x15 from them with printed logo all the way around the valence. I also bought the carry bag and 4 sandbags. I fold the canopy with the top half still attached to the frame. It has lasted me almost 10 years with no issues at all. I will probably buy 3 more walls to close up at night.

A heavyweight canopy is no match for wind.  Don't discount the amount of lift those things generate.

Oh yeah.  Vented top is mandatory here.  We are often billed as the windsurfing capital of the world...  wind / water sports are major source of work for me.  And some form of tie down...  I'm often tied of to judging tower scaffolding.

Well that was painless and fast.  Just deployed the canopy at setup this morning.  Band gig!  I actually get to play for a change

Another KD Kanopy fan. I bought a 10 X 15 XTF that I used last weekend.  I liked it so much that I took advantage of a 10 X 10 special deal and ordered a second this week.  They are out of the Denver area, and for me it is two day shipping.
