Speaking from a rental company perspective...

It doesn't look good for anybody when the BE and/or the house techs can't get a rental working. So we are happy to give techs the opportunity to spend an afternoon in our shop with the console before the rental actually happens.  Sending a tech to hang out and do show-day training would be extra, though.

Is A1 for Dragoncon a paid or volunteer position?

Sounds like it was a fly date, and that their show file disk was corrupted. Soooooo extra time pre-show at the shop wouldn't alleviate that problem. Sending the file to the rental shop in advance to have it pre-loaded (since they were the ONLY ones using that desk!!) would have identified those issues before show day, of course.  :P
