Yamaha CL5 with Neve plugin?

I have heard that a Neve plugin in the premium rack of the CL5 helps to warm up the sound of the console when inserted on the output bus. What Neve plugin is it that does that? Is it that you just insert it or are there any special settings that are then recommended to get that sound?

The CL has a Neve branded parametric EQ and a comp.  The comp is certainly pleasant sounding in its way but doesn't warm things up the way say a pair of Summits tube comps would across the stereo buss.  If you want to try the over all warming up effect set it to 1.5 or 2:1 and run the threshold down til your pretty much in some gain reduction most of the time and see what you think.

Sounds like snake oil sold by golden-eared sheisters.

I use the CL5 every day and there is no need to "warm" it up. Also. The Neve EQ and Compressor plug ins are designed to be uber transparent. So any "warmth" somebody heard was all in their head.

As much as "warm" sound has any sort of definition it seems to be associated with devices and processes that add even order harmonic distortion to the signal.  If the man wants to add distortion to his mix who are we to judge?  Are gated snare reverbs any worse? I suspect he won't find what he wants in the Neve compressor on the Yamaha but thats what he asked about.  Might have more success with the tape saturation effect but hey thats why they're called toys.  ::)

The Neve Portico compressor is a pretty nice thing to throw across a lead vocal or an IEM mix.  But it's not some magic thing to "warm up" a console that doesn't sound bad in the first place.

Yamaha seems to be really pushing their Neve incorporation. Every time I talk to my Yamaha guy, he keeps harping on all of their Neve emulations on the new PM10. I keep telling him that I'm not really interested in the Neve stuff and more interested in things like workflow, GUI, ease of automation and networking, and how big/heavy it is and whether it takes 2 guys to move the console or if I need to get 4.

I have the Neve EQ inserted across my main outputs as the 6 band EQ. But I wouldn't say it's something that I really pay alot of attention to or notice.
