I had a woodshop teacher in seventh grade who used a wooden paddle with small holes drilled in it for extra sting. He would administer the spanking in front of the class and then make the student sign the paddle. At the end of the year he sawed each name off and handed the wood chunk to the kid whose name was on it.
We had zero injuries in shop class that year. The teacher he replaced had a kid rip one whole side of his shoulder-length hair off in the lathe the year before.
