Is there some odd issue with auto correct or have schools stopped teaching the difference between to and too?

I've noticed that two.
so sad.

I'm sure the schools are still trying to teach these things, but with today's generation and how easily distra--- look, a SQUIRREL!
But really, auto-correct is killing me. "Just get close, and the phone will fix it for you." And sometimes, people just don't care. I mean, is it THAT hard to type "you" instead of "u" when conversing online?
... those who have been on here for awhile know that I have a tendency to berate someone for bad spelling & grammar. "If you can't take the time to present yourself in a professional manner, I probably won't respect your point of view."

Language skills have been deteriorating for several decades (and I almost failed english in HS. ;D )
When I ran my kit business in the 70's the written notes that accompanied orders, often from college students were so bad they were distracting.
I have noticed a difference in people who don't read much with misuse of homonyms. Auto correct may change typos to real words, just not the correct words. Modern spell checkers are better at context.
Kids these days rather just link to a video than express their thoughts with written words.

PS: It is a mistake to judge peoples intelligence from their language skills, while effective communication is useful for success in all things.

I have two kids in school. One in elementary and one in middle school. They are teaching some BS called KidWriting. It allows kids to spell words incorrectly as long as it is phonetically correct. The "theory" is that they will all of a sudden, automajically start spelling correctly later in their school career. Forcing them to spell correctly from the beginning somehow harms their delicate self esteem. I guess I'm ruining my children by making them spell correctly.
I feel that their self esteem will be fine when they can get a job because they can communicate properly and the other applicants can't.
