Avid SC-48???
« on: May 21, 2017, 08:25:54 PM »

Wondering if anyone has heard of what they might be bringing out to replace the SC-48? Should be about that time?

I'm pretty sure that they meant the S3L-X to be the SC48 replacement.

I think that the S3L was a more proof of concept product.  It uses the AAX plugins, but still has limited plugin slots.  The biggest issue is the controller, not really suitable for anything other than smaller programmed shows.  Imho you need decent number of faders and quick access to complete eq/compressor/gate/plugin parameters to be able to work quickly.  The computing power for desks isn't to much of an issue these days, use ability and access is everything.

I'd agree with this, but price wise it's quite a bit more expensive, than the SC48.

I'm hoping Avid releases an "S4L" - something between the Tinker_Toy S3L and the "more than we need" S6L.  I hope they do it soon or we'll buy have to move away from Avid.

I'm not holding my breath. We are doing a console purchase in the next few months, in the "sc48 price range" I've narrowed the list down to the Digico SD9, and the Allen and Heath C3500/CDM48 system. Bump up your price a bit and more options become available.

I've got the D-Live in my theatre right now for a demo, we start tech in a couple hours :)
