I have a Soundcraft GB8 that the internal power supply has failed on.  This is the second time, was repaired last time.  Question: Can you run the external power supply if the internal one has failed?

Yes.  Soundcraft makes an external power supply (that's what the large round multi-pin connector is on the back of the board).
