« on: May 15, 2017, 12:18:44 PM »

Hey All,
I am looking for a source to buy some 1970's Mcintosh Solid State and Tube Amps.. Not looking for functioning units, Parts only are very welcome.. Creating an acoustic installation and looking to add some authentic hardware.

Given that even dead 2300s go for almost a grand on ebay I hope you have a hefty budget for your installation.

The old Phase Linear's also had nice blue meters in them.  And might be easier to come by.  Just don't hook them up.  ;)

Ivan is a big collector of classic amps, he may have some leads or excess stock

I don't have anything I am looking to get rid of now.  But am still looking for a couple of amps-they don't have to be working.

Ivan I might know where some Hill Chameleon amps are sitting in storage. Let me know if you still one and I'll make a call.

I would love to get one of those-but it depends largely on price.  They do not need to work-or even have guts (although I would like to see the insides), just the outside parts so that it looks like a complete amp.

Money is tight right now, but I would like one.

let me know.

I used to do gigs for MHA Audio (originally Malcolm Hill Associates) and we had dozens of those amps in the racks to power their Tannoy M6 AC-DC system. They're cleaning out the warehouse this month, so maybe there's a Chameleon amp laying around for cheap. I'll make a call and let you know.

Well, looks like there's a few laying around the shop. I'll call the owner tomorrow and see what he wants for them. According to their shop tech Bruce, there were two versions. One was a real rack mount pro unit with XLR and binding posts, and the other was more pro-sumer with hi-fi connectors. But he said the circuits were very similar. He probably has schematics as well. Could be fun....

Kind of like the Carver M1.5 and the PM1.5.  Same basic circuit, but the PM had more professional features, fan cooling etc.

I'm sure there are some laying around that are broken and not worth fixing.

THAT would be what I am interested in.

It is for looks/display only.

It would be in good company for others to enjoy

I have seen the "goo company" and it's a Wall of Power!
One of those things you see and it "reminds me of..." or "I had one of those in 19XX..."  :)

Back in the day, and it is a while ago now, I used to enjoyed both being on the receiving end of and mixing on the Hill rigs, though not M6s, "just" M3s.  Everything about the rigs was just a bit different, but as a package, Hill delivered the goods.  Though I don't miss mic pre gain control being remote control by means of comms at all!

I can get you a great deal on 40 of the M6 cabinets, but I won't help you move them...😫
