Soundcraft MSB-16 vs MSB-16i
« on: July 15, 2017, 02:34:35 AM »

Has anyone had a chance to compare these two stageboxes and have any thoughts they can offer?  Looking at adding one or other to the setup soon.
I guess my main question is, is there a noticeable improvement in the quality of the audio in the new "i" version vs the old version?

Thanks. :)

I'm curious about this as well.  Also, how trustworthy is a single Ethernet cable to FOH?  I know most of the larger setups have redundant cabling.  I mean if someone rolls over a multicore you probably lose a channel or two and can often repatch and keep limping along.  But mess up the Ethernet cable and everything is gone.

I believe these were meant to be a cheaper option, not a better option.
I expect the pres are the same between them.
They removed the option card slot and the AES outs.
The 16i has only one MADI port, but the 32i still has two and they added 4 more analog outs.
I definitely would have gotten the 32i instead of the original Mini 32.

I'm planning on the 32i I the coming days.  A local cross renter has the original.  With a few aes d to a boxes.  It will be interesting to compare them...  the aes outs are not real helpful to me where the analog outs are...

I use only the AES outs when I'm using my venue 360.  It's one of the reasons I got the dbx box, as I already had a 260.

Would be interested in hearing your thoughts when you get to compare them.
Thanks
