Is this small enough?

https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Recorder-Player-Dictaphone-Internal/dp/B01I3VLCI6/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1492126935&sr=8-8-spons&keywords=line-in+voice+recorder+nano&psc=1
Size is good, but even though it says line-in recording, I don't see any evidence that it has a line-in jack. Can't find a manual or any documentation on this device.

However, in the meantime I did find a product from Transcend which might fill the bill...

Yeah, no point in spending that much! And for a mono recorder??

several of the Sony units have stereo capability, and a mic/line input jack.

you could also build an attenuator cable..

I own a couple of the Tascam PR-10's.  They are small and relatively easy to use.  That being said, when hitting it with a true line level signal I found it was necessary to build a 20dB attenuation cable.

Battery life is not great.  If I remember correctly it's about 3 hours, however when necessary, I'll load it up with lithiums and that seems to give me the run time I need.

Other than that, I found it to be a great choice and I keep one in my kit at all times.

Looks like a decent unit. A bit bigger than I'd like though. The Transcend still looks like the winner so far.

Which one has line in recording?

Any one of them that has a external mic input. They all have ALC, and seem to handle line level just fine.
