RIP. I only got to work with him once, but it was in Copenhagen. Brought his double Showman amp rig from England, he took his cash in advance, and played for about 100 corporate award winners in a very small hotel ballroom.

The producer cringed when he sang My Ding-a-ling, but the rest of us loved it.

Sad day.

When I was in high school, we got a jukebox in the cafeteria.

The VERY FIRST song that somebody played was "My ding-a-ling".

The principal went over and yanked the cord out of the wall.

That was the end of the juke box.

He was just singing about a little toy that he played with------------

We did a gig on Friday night and one of the last tunes we played was Johnny B Goode so maybe that was a fitting tribute even though it was before he passed away.  We did a ricky ticky jazz gig last night so it wasn't the right gig to play Chuck Berry, which is a shame.

I was such an influence on so many great players. RIP.

"My Ding-a-ling" was fairly tame compared to some of his other lyrics:
"we boogied in the kitchen,
we boogied in the hall
I got some on my fingers
so I wiped it on the wall"

Looked up my one gig with CB, it was 25 years ago, also a corporate gig, using a local Rochester, Minnesota back up band.
I'll cherish the board recording and the autograph in his autobiography until we meet again at the big jam, where ever it may be...

He was the one and only artist I ever solicited an autograph from, he practically invented rock and roll, and still could do the "duck walk" just like he did when he was young, at age 65.

His last album was either released recently, or was scheduled for release soon, in either case, I suspect he'll be "Chuck-ling" at the $$ coming in, he loved that long green and young ladies ;^)

Started my DJ career in 1985 working for Studebakers, a 50-60s chain where we used 45s and did lip syncs for a lot of the songs which only enhanced my love for all of the great music from those eras. Chuck's Great 28 album is the blueprint of rock-n-roll, from the guitar riffs, sped up blues rhythms, and the idea that Rock-n-Roll is made for the youth, songs filled with their perspectives and anti-establishment ideals. I got to see Chuck Berry & Jerry Lee Lewis on the same day at a show in Clearwater, FL in the early 90's, they both rocked the house and showed that attitude that they are both famous for. I feel bad for the youth of today who will never experience artists like these.
