obvious silence seems its not enough to consider the question any further
on x32 vs 32.4.2AI.

Yeah, it's too bad that there's no real world information on the Presonus board. I mean, wouldn't it be nice if there was a 15 minute video from a well known reseller and integrator for churches reviewing the pros and cons of the Presonus StudioLive 32.4.2ai?!?

The presentation would have been... what?

Did the link not work for you? I can fix it if it's broken! :) Or does he just not use YouTube?

X32 is by far a more capable mixer. There will be a learning curve for both if he is a novice. X32 or bust in this case

Faders on the Presonus are not motorized, so no "safe recall" and no sends on faders.  No recallable mic pres.
That pretty much kills it for me.

I mixed on a person is studio live once.  That was enough for me.  X32 hands down every day of the week.  So much more console.

Comparing the StudioLive 32 (the new gen III board released at NAMM this year) to the x32 is a much more apples to apples comparison.

I had used the SL24 for about three years and then I purchased a A&H QU 16 and a Midas M32R (which at the heart of it is the X32). And since you mentioned the Rack X32, I own and use a QU-PAC for mixing headphones in our home project studio.

Hands down the X32 versus the second generation SL is no contest. X32 is the winner. But, when it comes to the newest generation of SL I have no idea, I have not seen or used the new SL board, but I bet Presonus has done a hell of a good job on it. I will say that when I did own the Presonus and had a surge take it out, that having it repaired through the manufacturer was really easy and economical. Also transitioning from analog to digital may be a little easier on the SL. For the technologically challenged the second generation Presonus would definitely be an easier transition in my opinion.

If he is considering the rack mount I would look at the A&H QU Pac. I feel that the QU has a little easier control using the touch screen. I considered the X32 rack because it was a little cheaper, but I have not regretted the QU_Pac. and it is expandable using the digital snake just like the X32. Both are really meant to be installed in a rack and controlled from a tablet, but I still want to be able to easily use the console if I loose network or the Ipad crapped out and the QU-Pac seems to have a better onboard interface for controlling the console. I have also used the Ipad control app for the Midas and the QU series and the QU series is easier to learn, even though both are great apps.

I really wonder if he means X32 Producer not X32 Rack.  I can easily see how someone would call the rack-mountable producer model the rack and not realize there is a separate rack model.

Called him to clarify, the presonus 16 at 899.99 is what he is considering, ugh
  x 32 rack 999.99     x 32 producer 1199.00
apparently he has been seduced by the 100.00 savings and the  presonus magic mojo  the sales guy has hypnotized him with.
Oh well,
  I  rest my case,

                         Thanks for the responses.
