Terrific handheld Spectrum analyzer from SAF Technical
« on: March 06, 2017, 09:55:26 AM »

Currently they only make it 2 GHZ and above.  Resolution on the screen is amazing.  Touch screen is resistive and can be used with gloves on.

They are thinking about making a sub 2 gig unit.  It's not cheap...This is about $4800.00.

They make microwave equipment and have a terrific path calculator which takes into account elevation and obstructions.  YTou can use it for free with limited functions.  This is a calc from my house to the Bronx Zoo.

Path Calculator

Their website is www.saftehnika.com

Amazing, nice packaging too.  Just think 30 years ago we had to lug around this 100lb beast. I have to wonder in this day of 4k resolution tablets if dedicated function boxes are worth building.  Not having to create a UI saves quite a bit of time and R&D budget.

Agree, I was going to block out the Z-Axis test set.  The top part is a spectrum analyzer.  It does have a sweep generator built in.

It was a general comment that we used to lug a fairly significant piece of hardware to do most of the same jobs.

You are correct, you can't locate transmission line faults, measure return loss or tune filters with the pocket Spectrum Analyzer.

Somebody correct me here but based on the data sheet these devices are fixed at 1MHz RBW and 100MHz Span. That's far to coarse in my opinion.

That's fine for +2GHz and up which is what it's used for - microwave.  If they make a sub 2GHz unit i am sure it will have finer rez.

I'm sure it's very nice, but for that price, can I get it with an espresso maker?  ;D ;D

I believe it includes a fully equipped barista....

I agree it's way to expensive for the below 2gig market since the TTI Series 5 - model PSA3605 Handheld RF Spectrum Analyzer 3.6GHz Spectrum Analyzer with Option U02, Case and Accessories is only $2,580.00 and the lower spectrum and capability Series 2 - model PSA1302 Handheld RF Spectrum Analyzers 1.3GHz Spectrum Analyzer is only $1,395.00.

I have the series 5 - Model PSA6005USC which goes up to 6 GHz.

Compare series 2 and 5 here - Most notable in series 5 is lower noise floor and N connector for antenna.

Go for the Series 5 if you can. The Audio de-modulation can be very helpful.

The Series 2 also features audio demodulation.
