It used to be common practice here to use the legs of a metal frame chair wedged between the door and the emergency exit push bar to prevent people getting in.

I would remove that chair immediately. Any complaint and  I would leave and call the fire department from the parking lot.  that is how people get killed.

I learned years ago to never make it known that I have a problem with a fire code violation. Just go outside and quietly make an anonymous call to the fire department. And when they show up be as surprised as everyone else. I don’t work those kinds of places any more. What happens now is I just mention that the fire marshal will be around for the inspection and are you ready?
