just out of curiosity I will try assigning the same IP on both sides.

Worth the experiment, but I don't think it will work, can't say why with any certainty though! Any clarification resident IT guys? (Scott Holtzman??)

so if I set the same address the Mac side tells me another device on the network is using the same IP.

I did not try actual connectivity.

Frankly I didn't comment because I was having trouble following the thread.

Virtual machines can run in NAT mode or bridge mode.  For almost all applications you want to run bridging.  This will place the virtual machine in the same network as the adapter.

If you have two adapters you can create another bridge group and use one for the host PC's and one for the VM's.

In any event you never want to duplicate an IP and if you interfaces are in route/NAT mode you can't duplicate the network.

Don't run NAT under any circumstances and only use route if you understand all the implications.

so, I haven't had the need to run this BSS program since march, and I am pretty sure that back in march it was working with the adapter set to NAT.

I mean, whatever, I am glad I got it working, I am just saying out of curiosity, because I am well aware of networks and if I changed to bridge at that time I would have remembered.

I am also aware the same IP cannot be on two devices, what I didn't know if that bridging place both in the same network.

thank you all :)
