« on: July 30, 2016, 07:32:48 AM »

Do I need a network switch to connect these two consoles on two rio's in daisy chain mode?

No, you don't need a switch for daisy chain mode.

With a switch you could use shorter latency settings, though.

I haven't tried 2 consoles in daisy chain, is that possible? At the cost of a couple of small switches for a system this small, why not use switches and redundant networks?

As long as the consoles and Rios are set to Daisy-Chain it works.

Many companies around here (Spain) go Rio>Rio>CL Mon>CL FOH. I even heard a Yamaha rep once bragging about how "it just works".

Somehow, I feel more comfortable with a redundant Cat cable to FOH and a fully redundant switch network. Luminex, whenever possible ;)

not sure what the limit is, but you can run a Bunch of yamaha stuff in daisy chain mode and it'll work.  Doesn't mean it's a good idea....

I think you will have more latency with daisy chaining more devices

Thank you for the replies. Well we have connected cl-rio-rio-ql and it works. Both mixers recognize rios gain compensation works. I am not shure how to connect cl and ql with two rios in daisy chain by using switches? In redundant mode there are two switches, one for primary and one for secondary network. How to connect two switches in daisy chain mode?

With a switch (or 2) you would not use a daisy chain. The switch gives you the ability to plug each device into the switch so losing a single connection doesn't cause you to lose everything. It also frees up the secondary network port so you can run a redundant network by adding more cable and another switch.
