A Few Questions for Danley SM80 Users
« on: May 25, 2016, 01:12:05 AM »

1. What power amp are you using? WPC into 8 ohms?
2. What subs are you using?
3. Do you keep any user replaceable parts on hand?

I usually give them between 650-1100 watts, depending on which amp I'm using. The difference between the two is only 3db. Noticeable, but not drastic.

I've never even considered carrying spare parts. Most of the drivers in all of the Danley products are readily available 'off the shelf' throughout the US. Unless you're on the other side of the world I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you're blowing them up you have something else in the signal chain that needs to be addressed.

The only spare part you might want to have on hand is a replacement HF diaphragm.  Just in case one breaks.

All the Sm80s in the last couple of years have the Danley Sentinel HF protection that provides a multistage (peak and continuous) protection for the HF. It stays "out of the way" until it is needed for protection.

So that should limit the overpowering issue.  But since the HF driver is the most fragile driver in all loudspeakers, it is nto a bad idea to keep one.

It is easy to replace, no soldering needed.  It is self aligning and just bolts to the back of the woofer.

1 channel per SM80 of a QSC PLD4.5. 1150 W
2. What subs are you using?
TH118's. They each get the remaining 3 channels of the PLD4.5. I have 2 tops over 2 subs. 2 amps. Easily runs off of a single 20A circuit along with monitors & some backline.

Crown xti 4000, and we hardly ever touch the clip lights, even outdoors
One TH 118 a side, could use 2 a side outdoors if we had em.
No, but if it was an emergency, could pull the B&C driver in one of our coaxial monitors for a direct swap. Ivan's suggestion to carry a spare diaphragm is a good one, but we haven't had any issues, and we have serial #s 1 and 2.

I just ordered SM80s and another pair of TH118s.  I already owned 1 pair of TH118s.

Amps:
SM80s will be powered with ITech 9000HD
TH118s will be powered with 2 ITech 8000s

I would like to add a question...

How are you getting the SM80s up in the air if not flying from above?

The old standard Ultimate TS-99BL.
I've found that adjustable leg to come in handy quite often.

The pole is a standard 1 3/8".  So any speaker stand will work.

We use the K&M crank pole stands for demos.

We also have the screw on extensions when we need extra height.  That gets it up another 3' or so.

If you go that high-BE SURE to secure the base.

Crown IT 4000 or 6000 for SM80 and 6000 for TH 118.

K@M poles with expanding collars that fit the TH 118.

BT-12 speaker tilters are great for this size cabinet and setup.
