I am going to toss a name in here,  Hexacon Electric.  I have been using them for my entire carrier and own two.  Recovery time is excellent.

I bought a Hakko from Amazon. Seemed like a good buy. I'll check the others, but right now I need a GP iron badly. Like a dumb ass I've been cleaning the basement and benches moving tools, etc. and threw all the old ones out before I bought a new one. How dumb is that. What a dumb ass I are.

I am going to toss a name in here,  Hexacon Electric.  I have been using them for my entire carrier and own two.  Recovery time is excellent.

I haven't thought about them in decades.  My first "real" soldering iron was Hexacon right-angle iron, 35w IIRC.  The closest current model is the SI-P25(H).  It was recommended to me by my electronics merit badge instructor.  I had for years until my tool box was stolen in college.

It's hard to beat for a GP iron, good temperature control, and with the larger tip it's the go-to iron for soldering ground leads to a metal chassis etc.

I've used a hakko for the last 10-12 years. I had a seller before that and like the hakko better. Obviously both companies have a cheap and a more spends unit. Mine was in the $125 range back then. I don't use it near like I use too but it still fires up everytime I ask.

Are they still around?  I remember Dick and Kathy trying to hawk their '60s design irons to the industry back in the '90s.  Was a joke back then.

Hakko is pretty much the standard of the industry unless people have money.  Then they buy Metcal.  I did some beta testing for Metcal years ago and used one when I got my Mil-Std-2000 soldering certificate.  I have one at home.  The tips are expensive but if you take care of them they will last.  Forget to tin it and it gets expensive.  That's why most cut rate shops use the Hakko, lazy operators won't cost them as much in tips.  But as was said, you can take the same tip from an SMT part to the inside of Fender amp.  And if you have to deal with SMT parts, the Talon handpiece makes double sided components a breeze.  Even old Fender techs can remove parts without wrecking the board.

I'm not sure about them Scott. The quality would appear to be outstanding, but they seemed to be more geared for copper flashing and branding cattle.
