The effects of an airwall
« on: April 12, 2016, 12:53:16 PM »

Wanted to share a little experiment to quantify the effect an airwall has on RF. I've always figured airwalls will affect RF (It is an obstacle after all), but that it was not much. So I placed a UR2 on a mic stand @5' free standing in the middle of a room, and took a measurement from 50' away. Then I placed it 25' from an airwall, and stood 25' away on the other side for the measurement. It appears that airwalls do not have any real effect on signal strength. I measured -53dbm w/o airwall, and -52dbm w/ airwall. I'm chocking that difference up to slightly different antenna positions b/t the 2 measurements.

The degree of RF attenuation will depend highly on the construction of the air wall. Some scissor design walls have an interior metal frame. Some have metal skins for thermal insulation.
