Anybody doing anything neat with Raspberry Pi?
« on: March 20, 2016, 03:10:27 PM »

They've just released the 3rd generation of the Raspberrry Pi mini computer for $35. I really want to get one of these.

Is anybody out there doing anything neat audio related with these things? Apparently there's a version of Windows 10 that will run on it. Could you make a mini measurement rig out of one?

Not a Raspberry, but a Banana Pi - making use of the onboard SATA

I've built one up and it works as a simple 32 track recorder/replay controlled by the associated app.

Nice! I wonder if I could convince Audinate to port DVS to whatever platform would be needed to run Dante on a Raspsberry Pi computer.

There has been some work done on an open source Dante implementation, Wyclliffe.  One wonders if it (a) works well enough, and (b) could be integrated to the Banana tracker?

I have made a few production related Pi projects.

Data Logging anemometer with 3" display for roof gigs.

Inclinometer that mounts to the headache bar of a line array for top box angle, with a camera to time laps the crowd.

RF spectrum analyzer using RTL-SDR

Automatic temperature compensated delay program for a large stadium installation running BSS soundweb London.

I have done a couple other small projects at home, just daily temp and thermostat logging.

I would highly suggest learning Python to get started. There are a bunch of you tube videos to get you going.

You'll more likely to see an aes67 based dvs first on linux since this is an open standard and I suspect most of the dante oem cards will have aes67 enabled.

Merging recently released a free 'dvs' for aes67 on mac supporting up to 64 channels..

On the raspberry I run behringers x32-edit that they support natively. Only need a monitor and mouse.

This is a fantastic idea! If i understand right, using the dante protocol, you can simply plug the cat5/6 cable from the front of house at a live show into the RPi3 and have full mulitichannel audio!

Does anyone know if Dante has been implemented on the RPi3?

OK, thats pretty cool.  Mind sharing some of the bits and pieces you used to make that happen?

Not sound, but still on stage.

My lighting control is done by unix scripts running on a macbook.  Output is ArtNet (UDP) which gets converted to DMX later.

I'm considering shifting the unix scripts to a Raspberry Pi to make the whole setup more "appliance-like" and useable by others.

I have one running the control software for my Behringer XR16.  I haven't used it at an event yet though.  My intention is to Velcro it to the back of a touch screen monitor to make a control surface.

I've got one installed in a venue where the wifi needs to go on and off on a schedule.  The APs are powered via POE from a Cisco SG300 switch so system just enables and disables the POE.  Schedule is via a text file that's re-read every 5 minutes (I think).  I also used the gpio ports to add buttons for on and off.

I've got a second unit functioning as a network terminal server.  I've got a project with a Q-Sys core running things.  A few pieces of automated equipment didn't function they way I liked with TCP/IP connections but worked great with serial.  The RPI acts as a 4 port RS232 and 1 port RS485 to IP server.  Works great using off the shelf Linux software.  The added bonus is I can run some additional custom software on the system to do some database interfacing that is beyond what Q-Sys is capable of.
