I need to mount a 8" ceiling speaker in a old hole that is 12". Anybody know of a adapter plate I can purchase. I need 20 ASAP

Sorry I forgot to say, I have the 8" speakers to be installed.

One of the previous installs cut holes to 12" diameter. The ceiling is only 8ft high and the original install placed speakers in every possible location at the time....lots of limiting things above the hard deck here, older building, several remodels. The speakers I am replacing are good speakers but they have the normal 90deg pattern. This leaves a lot of holes in the coverage. I am replacing them with a 170deg units. Today I pulled the old ones out and found the last installer made a custom metal ring around his 10" diameter speaker cans that say 8" on the label. I assumed it was a standard 8" speaker can, I was so so so wrong!

Are you just trying cover 12" hole with an 8" speaker, or are you trying to mount an 8" speaker in a 10" can?

I've got a hole in my hallway ceiling, caused by a family member putting their foot through the ceiling when the floorboards were lifted upstairs.  Needless to say, its a bigger hole than an 8 inch speaker fits into.  I do wish the 13x8 speaker that EMI made decades ago was still available, it would be a great fit...  Meanwhile, I'm watching this thread for inspiration!

I am putting a 8" speaker in a 12" hole. The units being replaced were held in because the backing ring was 12-3/4" OD. My backing ring is only 10-3/4" OD Also the old speakers had custom 2" metal rings to cover the gap. on the finish side of the ceiling.

You will not find an off-the-shelf solution to this.
Can you chop up the original speakers and mount your new ones in the faceplate of the old ones -thus using their custom metal ring and original grille?

If not find a cnc fab shop in your area that can water-jet you a short-run order of metal adapter plates of your own design -sounds like you'll need 2, one for above to mount the new speaker that will probably have to be in a "C" shape to allow you to get it through the hole, and a finished trim-circle to cover the gap from below

Or break out your scroll-saw and some masonite
