How close together?  It's normal for mics to act poorly if they are within a couple of inches.  This has nothing to do with the digital / analog board unless you are laying the mics on the board.

i should clarify that is is more like an ear piercing sound similar to high frequency feedback

If you have a digital board....locate the the phase switch for one of the channels (it is in your manual somewhere)...when you hear the noise change the phase of the channel...If it gets better it is probable feedback between the mics, some mics do not play well together.  If it is worse put it back.

Usually rf interference will swish or crack/scratching sound.  The Shure site has some videos on identifying different sounds.

coming from the mics?  Does it go away when you turn one down?

It's normally not a good idea to have wireless mics touching each other but over a foot or two away from each they should be fine. What model Sennheisers do you have, I'm going to guess Evolution series, if there the G2 or G3 series the receivers will do frequency scans looking for the best open frequencies within the pre defined channel groups. You should operate the mics in the same channel group as those frequencies have been pre-programed not to cause intermod between themselves.
Intermod between mics can cause interference that can come through on other open mic receivers and sounds kind of like you described.

My gut feeling is that turning up the squelch level on the receivers (assuming that you turned them up) only masked the real problem based on the description of the problem you are having.

Sennheiser wireless does best to lower squelch, run frequency scan, set channels into preset free frequencies in the same bank, then raise squelch on all receivers.  Unless coordinating large number of channels or outdoors in a crowded RF environment, this method has always worked very well.
